- Full-time paid employment while undertaking studies and completing required supervised clinical experience
- Complete a Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound via QUT, Monash, Charles Sturt or other regional universities
- 2-year traineeship duration being trained by highly skilled experienced Sonographers
- Graduate as a fully Qualified Sonographer upon successful completion of the University program
- Regional candidates may be eligible for university fee reimbursement after 3 years of service post-qualification.

Applicants must:
- have a recognised bachelor degree in a relevant allied health field (e.g. Medical Imaging, Nursing, Biomedical Science)
- be enrolled in (or eligible to enrol in) a Graduate Diploma of Medical Ultrasound
- be able to commit to living in the region for at least 5+ years
Queensland X-Ray regional sites eligible for this placement are:
- Brisbane
- Cairns
- Gold Coast
- Mackay
- Townsville
- Toowoomba

Applications for The Queensland X-Ray Trainee Sonographer program are now closed for the 2025 intake.
Our next intake will open for applications in September 2025.

You will need to:
- pass all university and Queensland X-Ray assessment to maintain employment and position in the Trainee Sonographer program
- maintain an enrolment in University course
- Return 3 years of full-time service as a qualified Sonographer post-qualification in return for the 2-year paid Trainee Sonographer program.

Withdrawal by recipient: Trainee Sonographers who withdraw from the program may be required to repay some or all of the costs associated with the Traineeship.
Termination of employment by Queensland X-Ray: Queensland X-Ray may terminate a Trainee Sonographer agreement if a recipient does not satisfactorily meet the University and Qld X-Ray assessment criteria.
