Musculoskeletal (MSK)

Queensland X-Ray has a significant volume of specialist and generalist MSK imaging in both community and hospital settings. With numerous sub-specialist radiologists, 1:1 teaching is available along with intervention and multiple specialist orthopaedic and sports medicine meetings. Fellowships are available in South East Queensland and Townsville.

Women's and breast

With numerous specialist women's centres and community practices, there is a wide exposure to all facets of women's imaging and intervention. This includes MRI, Tomosynthesis and emerging techniques such as contrast enhanced mammography. The fellowship program is run out of Brisbane centred at the Mater campus. There is an option for exposure to pelvic female MRI and obstetric imaging.

Nuclear medicine & PET

PET imaging and general Nuclear Medicine reporting is available across the Brisbane campuses with a large volume of studies performed daily and access to multiple meetings including lung cancer and lymphoma.

Neuro, Spine, Head and Neck

Queensland X-Ray has always been at the forefront of neuro imaging and has access to large referring groups at our Mater campuses as well as Greenslopes Private Hospital. There is a considerable caseload exposure and specialist reporting available such that a fellowship in this specialty is highly sought after. Numerous sub-specialist meetings are available to attend.

Abdominal imaging

With access to major private and public hospitals and specialist units including colorectal, hepatobiliary, urology and hepatology, a fellow in this specialty can expect significant and varied exposure to multiple studies, modalities and body parts daily. With numerous meetings across multiple campuses, feedback and clinical importance of imaging is integrated in the learning process.

Cross-Sectional imaging

With access to large private and public hospitals, Cross-sectional fellows will gain exposure to the latest CT and MRI imaging techniques for diagnosis of acute illness. Fellows will also learn indications and will become proficient in a wide variety of tier A level percutaneous interventional procedures using sonographic, flouroscopic and CT visualisation. The interventional procedures are performed under direct supervision of a Tier B Interventional Radiologist. Opportunities are available to attend a wide range of sub-specialty clinical team meetings to develop any subspecialty imaging interests.

Cardiothoracic Imaging

Qld X-Ray provides cardiothoracic imaging services to patients throughout Queensland utilising multimodality imaging and interventions to provide comprehensive investigation of diseases of the chest, heart and vascular system. Fellows will develop a comprehensive understanding of HRCT of the lungs, oncological imaging of the chest, cardiac CT (including coronary angiography, TAVI, and function imaging) as well as cardiac MRI. Participation in regular chest and cardiac MDT meetings as well as exposure to echocardiography, nuclear medicine cardiac investigations, electrophysiology / interventional cardiology procedures and Qld Xray journal club will form part of training. Fellows will be eligible for, and encouraged to sit internationally recognised examinations for accreditation in cardiac MRI.
