About
Dr Frans van Tonder is an Interventional Radiologist who joined Queensland X-Ray in 2017. He completed his MBChB with First Class Honours in 2006 at the University of Cape Town and subsequently trained in radiology at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. In his FRANZCR final examinations, Dr van Tonder was awarded the MGF Donnan Prize for the most outstanding candidate in Australia. He continued his training with fellowships in MRI and Interventional Radiology in Melbourne while completing a Master of Medicine in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Melbourne.
During this period, Dr van Tonder was actively involved in registrar teaching and research, working as a VMO radiologist at St Vincent’s Public Hospital. He has published locally and internationally and is interested in research and teaching.
In 2016, Dr Van Tonder pursued further training in Thoracic Imaging and completed an observership in interstitial lung disease at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. Since joining Queensland Xray, he has worked mostly at the Greenslopes and Mater Private Hospitals in Brisbane.

Interventional radiology with a special interest in interventional oncology, MRI and thoracic imaging.
