Towards the end of 2023, in line with Queensland X-Ray’s sustainability initiative, our Gold Coast Private Hospital practice ran a successful campaign for used (bio-fluid-free) towels to be donated to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital to aid with the rehabilitation of injured or sick animals.
A previous collection of towels and medical items (expired stock) was so successful that it highlighted an opportunity for other Queensland X-Ray practices to become involved. Over 80 huck towels and other items, such as towels and pillowcases, have been donated to the wildlife hospital.
Due to their size and colour, our donated huck towels play a significant role in treating and rehabilitating hundreds of Rainbow Lorikeets affected by the Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome (LPS) outbreak in South East Queensland. The towels cover and colour-coordinate the bird cages assisting the wildlife team to quickly identify which cages contain Lorikeets with LPS.
