Dr Kerry McMahon explains the importance of regular mammograms

Today is World Cancer Day—a day to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.

From 2024, we are proudly Mater Foundation’s presenting partner for the International Women’s Day Fun Run, sharing a common goal in advancing care for people with breast cancer. The long-term partnership provides an opportunity to build on the existing relationship between Queensland X-Ray and Mater Health Services and demonstrate our shared values to make a positive impact on our community’s health and well-being.

Dr Kerry McMahon, Queensland X-Ray’s Director of Women’s Imaging at Queensland X-Ray Mater Women’s Imaging Centre, says having a regular mammogram is essential for all women, from the age of 40 onwards. “Many women put their own needs behind everyone else in the family but all women should prioritise having a regular mammogram,” Dr McMahon said.
